Privileges
The NR allows the holder of an LAPL or a PPL for aeroplanes, Touring Motor Gliders (TMGs), or airships to exercise the privileges of their license under VFR conditions at night.This rating extends the pilot's operational capabilities, enabling them to conduct flights and landings in low-light environments, which is essential for increasing flexibility and operational scope.
Entry requirements
Training course
The course shall comprise:
- Theoretical knowledge instruction (typically 5-10 instruction hours).
- At least 5 hours of flight time in the appropriate aircraft category at night, including:
- At least 3 hours of dual instruction.
- At least 1 hour of cross-country navigation, including at least one dual cross-country flight of at least 50 km.
- 5 solo take-offs and 5 solo full-stop landings.
Before completing the training at night, LAPL holders shall have completed the basic instrument flight training required for the issue of the PPL.
Complition
- Practical Assessment: Conducted by a qualified instructor to ensure competency in night flying operations.
- Course Certification: Upon successful completion of the assessment and meeting all requirements, the pilot will receive a Night Rating endorsement on their license (no skill test required).
The Night Rating course provides additional training to allow pilots to fly during nighttime conditions. It is a valuable add-on for private pilots who want to extend their flying capabilities and improve their overall aviation proficiency.
